WHAT THIS PAGE IS FOR

This page started as a place to share my Nobituary. My nobituary is a manifesto. It’s a declaration of a new future, the speaking forth of an intention to live a life I love. It’s a promise to myself to not complain but to take action, to be self-expressed and self-realized.

Since my heart attack, it has become my mission to hold onto that vision every day. I don’t ever want to forget that moment of joy and gratitude when I awoke from surgery and realized I now had a second chance at life.

It is my purpose here to connect with others who have experienced a similar epiphany and help them keep the joy alive too. Anyone can join in: people who have survived car crashes that “should have” killed them. Those who have literally (or figuratively) dodged a bullet. Cancer-patients-in-remission. Transplant recipients, patients recovering from diseases and surgeries of all kinds. People released from incarceration. People triumphing over addictions. Survivors of grief choosing to return to their life after almost giving up. People who pondered suicide but called out for help instead.

And I want to share this mission with everyday people who have not been reminded of their own mortality, forced to face the true nature of time.

Join me in standing for yourself, for the people in your life to see your new possibility for being, and really create the rest of your life by design. Write your own “nobituary” and share it. Let it be known, that’s what makes it real. Sharing it makes it work: you become accountable for it and you become known for it.

Consider that you are actually living your one extra life right now. There is no time like the present. Remember to say “I love you” more often to your loved ones. Get your affairs in order so you are not a burden on your family later. Create a bucket list, and do the things on it with the people you love, (or alone, as you wish.) Start that business you’ve been contemplating, quit that dead-end job, take that dreamed-of trip, and get that tattoo. Explore lifestyles and ways of being that you have always been curious about. Take this opportunity to transform your life.

You’ve re-discovered what a gift it is to be alive. Instead of celebrating only your birthday each year, also celebrate the day you suddenly realized you are living your “one extra life.”

If you have survived a major event in life, or even if you are inspired to make the declaration without going through that, it opens up a new view of life. New ways of being in the world become natural, and new concerns arise. This community is for sharing our stories and support with each other. There is a free Facebook group, and there is a membership area for more focused and full participation. There is a marketplace to access new things in life. A place to find resources and services for getting your affairs in order, and in realizing your dreams.

Our stories will be shared in a variety of formats and forums, for our own satisfaction and camaraderie, and to inspire and comfort others facing their own fears and challenges. To serve as a resource, a community of growth and support. We will offer Story Hour, Curated Group Discussions, Individual and Group Coaching Sessions. One Extra Life Marketplace is a forum for members to offer goods and services, and members to participate in buying those goods and services, sharing our talents and resources, saving each other money, and making new possibilities available to each other.

The most important part of any transformation is to keep it alive, present, and growing in your life, as self-expression. It becomes a way of life. If this calls to you, or you know others who may benefit, please join in, and share, and grow this with me as a community. I am not religious, and some people are. We can share across those differences. We can form groups around finding others to share within our religions, ignoring them, or blending them. This is, however, a place to check your politics at the door. We welcome all, humans, to be kind to each other, without engaging in the polarizing debates we see in some political discussions.
