The next question, of course, is what to do with the body. Your body. Your remains. You get to decide. Unless you don’t decide before that time, and let others know your vision. A friend of mine said he wants his body to be left in the forest to be devoured by wolves. It’s a sentiment completely aligned with his vision of the natural, primal order of the past. Unfortunately, we live in a society that has a few rules and regulations about remains disposition after death,  and that definitely is not going to happen, legally, within the 50 states! But there are many traditional and new options that are becoming available all the time. Green initiatives, including composting, are becoming more popular every day. Cremation is ancient, but now your ashes can be sent into outer space, compressed into diamonds, or made into glass beads and fashioned into jewelry. Again, it all depends on where you live or where you die.

As with everything in life, cost is a factor. If you find yourself in circumstances with no way to cover the costs of your remains disposition wishes, the options are more limited, but there are local and religious organizations that you can turn to.
